The Sign Language Coffee Bar is the first coffee bar in the Netherlands where you can order your coffee in sign language.

For those who don’t speak sign language, we created a touch-screen that shows you how to order your coffee in sign language so the deaf barista's will understand. Besides great coffee and a lot of fun,  the concept results in job opportunities for the deaf community. Since the start we were commissioned to design and build multiple creative services like creating roll-up banners, stickers for on the coffee bars, a new interpretation of the logo and different variations of the touch-interfaces.

The Sign Language Coffee Bar is now active in more than 20 different locations in the Netherlands, for clients like ABN AMRO Bank, Hogeschool Utrecht, Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment, Vodafone/Ziggo and the National Police Department.

Designing for inclusivity

The visual identity is based on the four hand gestures which in sign language spell out the company's name: 'sign' 'language' 'coffee' 'bar'. Together with the strong colors and typography it creates a recognizable look that reflects the fun and inclusive character of the company.
